St. Petersburg is home to Albert Whitted Airport, the site of the world’s first scheduled commercial airline flight back in 1914!
Though official construction of the airport began in October 1928, the small airboat that made aviation history years earlier took off from the nearby central yacht basin in St. Petersburg, cementing this location as the birthplace of commercial airline flight.
